PCR for the presence of the Y chromosome sequence in patients with Turner syndrome (procedure GEN-125)

In the majority of cases of Turner syndrome the karyotype has a mosaic character. Some cells have monosomy chromosome X (45X), and some have different chromosomal aberrations related to the X and Y chromosomes. In cases of Turner syndrome where Y-chromosome sequences are present, increased risk of gonadal tumors have been observed.

The PCR test allows to determine the presence or absence of the SRY gene sequence and the centromere region DYZ3.
